Welcome to my New Media Portfolio!

The New Media Certificate is part of the University of Georgia’s New Media Institute at Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. I decided to work towards this certificate to expand my knowledge on media and technology. I plan on using the tools I learn throughout my journey for future jobs. Below are the courses I have taken so far, take a look at my projects I have done over the course of my certificate!

During my enrollment in the New Media Designs course, I acquired comprehensive knowledge in HTML coding, CSS editing, and website development. Although I initially faced challenges due to my limited coding background, I quickly adapted and gained proficiency in these skills. This valuable toolkit positions me as a competent website builder, possessing a solid foundation in coding, and showcases my overall tech-savviness. Additionally, I had the privilege of utilizing my expertise to create an impressive online portfolio, effectively displaying my sister’s artwork to a wider audience.

During my User Experience Strategy course, I gained in-depth knowledge of user experience principles, research methodologies, and had the opportunity to design app prototypes using Figma. I also extensively studied the importance of user accessibility and discovered the criticality of ensuring inclusive design practices. Exploring Don Norman’s influential book, “The Design of Everyday Things,” I learned how design plays a pivotal role in addressing the needs and psychology of users, highlighting that usability issues should not be attributed to users but rather to flawed design choices. This resonated with me, and I have since incorporated the concept of the Norman Door into my design vocabulary. Furthermore, working with Figma to create prototype apps was a fulfilling experience that allowed me to channel my creativity, particularly in crafting travel applications for user engagement and enjoyment.

During my Capstone enrollment, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team in the creation of a website template. Our project focused on assisting our client, The Backpack Project, by enhancing one of their chapter websites. As a team, we collaborated with the Backpack Project to improve one of their chapter websites. To maximize impact, we developed a versatile website template that could benefit not only the targeted chapter but also other existing and future chapters. Alongside the Backpack Project, we devised the best approach and created a user-friendly how-to guide to assist chapters in navigating and editing the template effectively. Our goal was to promote consistency, accessibility, and growth across all Backpack Project chapters.
